These days, the world economy is going to cause a lot of issues for employees and employers. And unfortunately, we’re going to continue to see a lot of layoffs of employees in the coming months.

Is Your Layoff a Wrongful Termination?

Now, employers are allowed to lay off employees because they’re downsizing or because they’re dealing with their own financial issues. But, employees should be wary about whether that layoff is actually just a wrongful termination.

Ask These Three Questions About Your Layoff

There are three important questions an employee should ask themselves once they’ve been handed a layoff notice. The first is, am I the only employee being laid off at the company right now?

The second, am I being handed a layoff notice right after having made a complaint to HR or management about unsafe work conditions, or wage and hour issues, or even a complaint about harassment or discrimination in the workplace?

And lastly, is my employer looking to replace me in my position?

The answers to these questions can help determine whether your employer is really just disguising a wrongful termination as a layoff.
